My wife and
I have just arrived in Israel with a group from Florida and are excited about
what God has in store. Most of the folks
have never been. They’re having a great
time already. The excitement shows in
the conversations at the airport waiting for our flight.
Since we
landed in Tel Aviv about 2pm after 24 hours of traveling we decided to start
the journey immediately instead of waiting until we could get a good nights sleep. We decided we could always sleep after the
trip. So off on the bus we went…to visit
historic Joppa.
You
remember the story of Peter and his vision at Simon the Tanner’s home
concerning unclean foods becoming clean in Acts 10? It was God’s way of saying the Gospel was not
just a message for Jews but also for Gentiles like us. If not for that day we’d all be in
trouble. We visited the site of Simon
the Tanner’s home and imagined what it must have been like for Peter that day.
We also thought about Jonah. You remember that he fled from God to catch a
ship at Joppa after God had told him to go to Ninevah. Have you ever run from God thinking you could
get Him to forget about you? It just
doesn’t work.
A few
hundred yards away from Simon’s home was a spectacular view of Tel Aviv.
Then back
to our hotel on the Mediterranean Sea to freshen up, collect some shells, and
then eat dinner. As you can see, we
didn’t starve.
Keep
praying for us as we undertake this spiritual growth journey together. We’re all asking God to do a fresh work in
our lives while here. Wish you were with
us. It’s amazing. We were able to watch the sun set while we
ate dinner at our hotel.
Tomorrow
we’re off to Caesarea by the Sea, Mt Carmel, Megiddo, Cana, Nazareth, and
Tiberius on the Sea of Galilee.
